Eastern White Pine is a popular choice in Ontario for log home construction due to its abundance in the province and in general, its straightness of growth. Other common types of trees used in Canada for building log structures are Western Red Cedar, Western Douglas Fir, Eastern Red Pine and Eastern White Cedar. Our rustic log cabin (shown below) is constructed of Eastern White Cedar.


If you have been out shopping for a Christmas tree in Ontario you are probably aware of the many choices of tree species. The most common Christmas trees are White Spruce, Scotch Pine, Balsam Fir, White Pine and Colorado Blue Spruce. According to The Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association,  In Canada over 28,315 hectares (69,968 acres) were dedicated to Christmas tree production in 2011. An acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen for 18 people.
